Voices from the IPP

Matthias Knott, Head of Human Resources at the IPP, talks about the opportunities for professional development.

Internal IPP Lecture Series "Why Nuclear Fusion?"

In an internal lecture series at IPP, initiated by Tim Happel and Rachael McDermott, researchers from the Scientific Directorate reach out to colleagues working in science support roles. What sets a tokamak apart from a stellarator? How can energy be produced from nuclear fusion—and what exactly is “nuclear fusion”? While these topics are second nature to researchers at IPP, they can seem mysterious even to long-standing team members outside the scientific departments. The lecture series “Why Nuclear Fusion?” offers everyone at the institute the chance to gain a solid, engaging, and accessible overview of the key topics that drive the work at IPP. This inspiring initiative by our researchers aims to involve all employees and foster a shared understanding across the entire team.

Daniela Hellwig, project controller and works council member, talks about our institute’s culture.

"It’s easy to see that scientists are passionate about their work. But I notice the same drive in our science support teams, whether it’s administration, IT, or our technical departments – that motivation is just as strong. People here are proud to be part of what’s being researched and developed at the institute. We all feel genuine appreciation, as our directors are committed to making research accessible and meaningful for everyone on the team. What I love about IPP is that, with enthusiasm and commitment, you can become anything and truly thrive here. There are countless opportunities and a lot of support for everyone, from apprentices to group leaders."
